Russian Couple 'Breed' Tiger Woods and Anna Kournikova

MOSCOW (CBSBN) - A Muscovite businessman and his wife are having a baby with the DNA of both golfing No. 1 Tiger Woods and tennis superstar Anna Kournikova, according to a local radio station. Quoting an unnamed source, Radio Mayak reported that the couple purchased several ova from Kournikova and obtained a semen sample from Tiger Woods, which were used to create an embryo via in-vitro fertilization. The procedure was carried out at a fertility clinic in the Kropotkinskaya district, according to the report. The businessman, Yuri Alexandrovich Popov, is said to have reacted with "ecstasy" upon hearing of the success of the procedure, celebrating by handing out 5,000 ruble notes to staff at the unidentified clinic. The embryo has been implanted in a surrogate mother of Belorussian origin, who is living with the couple. It was unclear how much Popov paid for Kournikova's embryo, though the radio station speculated the cost must have been "at least seven million rubles." Seven million rubles was equivalent to about US $250,000 at current exchange rates. A worker at the clinic, who asked not to be named, explained that the Popovs had decided not to have a child biologically theirs due to Irina Popov's congenital heart condition, while Yuri Popov, an industrialist with interests in oil, natural gas, and armaments, desired to have a "superb athlete" for a son. The worker claimed that Irina Popov had confided in her that while Tiger Woods was not her first choice, his semen was readily available "for a reasonable price." Her husband had finally convinced her with a slide show of Tiger Woods' golfing achievements. Tiger Woods is widely considered to be the best golfer of his generation, and possibly of all time. The baby is due in December.
